my desire's for aubergine
but it's your kitchen, we settle
on the blues - my shade more intense
than you'd have chosen for yourself
mine's a high hot summer sky
a blue like an ache i revel in
while you approach the opposite wall
cautious with your paler shade
(this poem is a response to a commission from Leicestershire Libraries
for an 8 line poem on the theme of Blue Skies - the poems will be
printed on bookmarks for National Poetry Day)
