The Meaning of OK
By Jack Cade

The pool currently stands at:
Zero Kills, a skirmish report
on an exceptionally good day
in wire-sewn trenches.
'Langue D'Oc', from when Southern French
was Vulgar Latin, and 'Oc' meant 'Oui'
meant 'yes' meant 'Right-O'.
Fun with mis-spellings
eg. "Oll Korrect, Kapitain. Kno prublem, dood."
Ολα Καλά, Greek for 'Sound as a pound'.
The Choctau 'okeh' (the least likely)
The initials of Freight agent Obidiah Kelly,
injun Old Keokut or bush ranger Olly Kangeroo
The German 'Ohne Korrektur'
meaning 'Change Nothing!',
stamped - kerchunk - on pleasing manuscripts.
New Orleans fisherman hollering,
"au quai" (To the Quay!) when their hulls
croaked with a bellyful of fish.
I would like to add:
KO backwards. As in,
"I am undecked, lampedless,
anti-clotheslined, bereft
of unconsciousness, I lack
the quality of being punch-drunk,
so let's go
another round,
Jon."
