Tell Me, Father Gapon

TELL ME, FATHER GAPON (lyrics)
Tell me, Father Gapon
Why I've never seen so pale a face
Stirring up the masses
You instill with passion, fill with grace
What was said again?
Remind me
"Only blood can colour revolution, baby."
Thousands upon thousands
Spilling into St. Petersburg
Crosses swinging
Bells a-ringing
Hymns a-soothing
Surging
Moving
Ikons swaying
And why, Father, you were praying
Procession commencing
Petition presenting
Senses sensing
Incenses for scenting
January's hoping the tsar is repenting
Emerging from everywhere
Converging
Pouring down on Winter Palace Square
Not a one of them yet aware of the
Cannons that're callously scattered
As the cavalry charge at their torn and tattered forms
And the booms ring out
In the rooms of heaven
As they're cut to shreds
The threads of red weave sickles and stars
In the dead white snow
Time a river flowed
An old man turns to a crying child with a broken smile
He says, "Remember, son, remember, and swear to repay."
The massacre drew to a close with the day
And into the night went the ghosts of their faith
Their religion
As the mist fled their sight
They insisted they'd fight for a vision
Father Gapon, tell me
How did you survive?
When another thousand tears have bled
From Russia's frosted eyes
