Nick turned his head on the pillow that he could not feel, his hands
reached out for something that wasnt there. In a sleepless dry voice he
began to speak.
"No...get...get out of the road. God...damnit...get off the
road."
He found himself in this dream and from his bed he now stood on that
lone road and she still stood there as the car moved closer.
She had jsut stood up and her head was still hanging on her shoulders
as if she was concentrating on something.
"Hey"
He called out to her, she still seemed not to hear...or listen.
"Hey...get off the road"
The same reaction, the car was getting even slower...he noticed it
seemed to be travelling pretty slow for a car...and he noticed that the
girl and the car were in a time lap or at least he thought. How did it
come that he could move at a ralatively normal speed? So he waited to
get a reaction from the girl, who seemed to be glowing although it was
dark outside...in his dream, and she seemed to have a light all around
her in her white costume. He noted that she did move after a while and
the car was nearer to them. Inside the car he noticed two figures at
the front. The driver wasnt looking on the road...he was turned to the
person next to him.
"They are arguing"
He thought outloud. He waited even more until the car was closer to the
girl and he checked wether his analysis had been correct. He could see
the speedmeter it was at 100. If he had calculated correctly then in
about half an hour they would hit the girl...In his reality about 10
seconds.
He started walking towards the girl now, who seemed stagnant in this
silence...the silence. It was all over. No sound.
Just as he was about to examine that light over her, the silence broke
and all the noise came together...the wheels of the car screeching on
the road and the screams of the drive and his passenger. It ran them
over.
"Noooooo."
Nick awake with a tinge of shock. He remebered the girl and a rush of
guilt washed over him. He looked at the time, it was 5:30 in the
morning so she took a shower to clear his head. It was the first time
for him to ever dream of something so small, normaly he dreamt of great
catastrophes,nostradamus like events.
"Why that event? Was it a forevent for something bigger? That would
explain it. Either that or...no it can only be that."
He thought about it even more as he was having breakfast and watching
television and it struck him that he had seen the car before.
It was the same car. The reporter was going on and on about how a girl
was runover by a man on the last night and that she had fallen in a
coma. It was a miracle that she survided the accident at all.
Nick waited to hear the hospital name where she was kept but it wasnt
mentioned. At least he knew that it was in Darnby in his town where
there we only four hospitals. He started to call the hospitals to find
out if she was in any of them but she wasnt.
"That helped. What is actually expected of me at this time, I wouldnt
mind knowing."
"Wow you are up early. Whats wrong honey...have one of those terrible
dreams?"
His mother was awake and coming to make breakfast, she spoke and did
tons of other things at the same time and kissed him goodmorning"
"No...no I am fine."
"C'mon you can tell me"
She said stopping for a couple of seconds to look at him.
"Mom its really nothing."
Nick stood up from the table.
"Aren't you going to wait for your sister?"
"Lisa is old enough...she knows the way to school"
His mother came to a complete halt now.
"Itd be nice if at least you two held together"
"Dont expect something that you never gave."
It hit her blank in her face and he left her there. She cried in their
sink.
At school Lisa came to him asking him as usual what he had done to
their mother and as usual he ignored her.
"We have a new student today...lets welcome her with open arms."
Nick was late as usual and as he opened the door he stood still in his
tracks, that same girl was standing in front of him once again. This
time full of life and she was no longer in that light but her presence
was strong in the room. He finallymanaged to stammer.
"You...are not from here."
It was more a statement, than the question that eveyone thought it to
be.
