Forever waiting

Patrick hugge Jenny close to him and gently kissed her
forehead. Stepping back, he looked her straight in the eyes and said,
&;quot;will you wait for me
then?&;quot;

&;quot;Forever!&;quot;, she
replied.

Looking at him through the tears in her
eyes, the strength of her feelings welled up inside her and
she hid her face in his chest, afraid to let him see. They
stood together like that for a long moment until a shrill
whistle broke into their silent reverie.

Patrick
stood back and, smiling at Jenny, said, &;quot;Well, I'll have
to go now, my love. I'll be back in a month and then we'll be
married!&;quot;

Looking up at him, she replied,
&;quot;I love you so much. I'll miss you every day you're
gone!&;quot;

&;quot;I know!&;quot;, he
replied simply, before kissing her. With that, he turned and ran across
the walk-way that led to the staff quarters, pausing briefly at the
door to wave to her. A moment later, the door was pulled shut with
a loud clang - and he was gone!

Reluctant to leave
right away, Jenny consoled herself with joining the dockside crowd
in waving to the departing passengers that lined the deck of
the RMS TITANIC as it edged its way out to sea?!
