I am a refugee

I am a refugee
Disenfranchised, living life on the outside
Deprived of my home, family denied
No sense of belonging, in a foreign land
No one to give me a helping hand

Keep on the move, look for a place
Must learn to fit in, make a new face
Look for work, whatever I can find
Leave all hope and belongings behind

How will I survive with no family, unbefriended?
The life I once knew has painfully ended
I had to leave, simply had no choice
In my new life here, I have no rights, no voice

I must learn the language and a new way of life
Find somewhere to live for children and wife
I don't understand how things are done here
Don't understand why the people have such fear

Why do the locals treat us so badly?
I'd make friends with any one of them gladly
We are no threat, why do they hate us so?
Don't they realize, we've no place else to go
