Green and Gold Schooldays
(St. Illtyds 61-68)
My memories are clouded
By the overpowering
Sense of forbidding darkness
And the many towering
Thoughts of hard learned instruction
My happiness is tainted
By the constant nerve jangling
Fear of impending trouble
From the crooked rod dangling
In the strong hand of control
My impressions are twisted
By the humourless flashing
Scenes of demeaning torment
From the spiteful taunts crashing
On the ears of innocence
My sensations are altered
By the brand new exciting
Feel of delightful freshness
From the bright walls inviting
Dreams of untried beginnings
My attitudes are moulded
By the safe warm inspiring
Tones of genuine concern
And the real passions firing
Hopes of long held ambitions
My confidence is boosted
By the pleasant embracing
Words of true heartfelt welcome
And the reminders tracing
Deeds of past proud achievements
My memories are brightened
By the overpowering
Warmth of unselfish kindness
And the endless flowering
Minds of well taught compassion
