W for Weed Festival
Yesterday we went to a Cannabis Festival at Brockwell Park in Herne
Hill.
I went with my brother and his friend. The weather could not have been
better that day the sun was laughing and the temperatures were
unusually tropical.
Once we arrived at the park we saw a big cloud of smoke and underneath
a massive crowd of peaceful smokers.
We went to buy some beer and water in a small shop first as, to my
surprise, no alcohol was sold on site.
A whole little village was spread across the green filled with sound
systems, stands with campaigners and petitions to sign, clothes,
jewellery and artefacts, food en masse, overflowing toilets, mud,
unconcerned police, playing kids, adults, and dogs, performers,
balloons flying in the air, playground, live bands, old and
neo-hippies, soundsystems playing trance and techno, Reggae sytems,
couples, families, herbal tools, petitions to support a woman who has
been convicted by the US government for 10 years to life for possession
of a bit of marihuana to ease her cancer pains, potato wedges, an
acrobat doing tricks with children, dreadlocks.
We tried not to get too stoned, and thus became more observer than
participants in that whole event
It was one of the most peaceful events that I had been to in a long
time!
I may be wrong ,but had this been a beer festival, running over a whole
day it would almost certainly end with some drunken people stirring
trouble. At the smoke festival everybody was very positive and most
probably too stoned to cause any problems.
This notion supports my view of alcohol being widely underestimated as
a potentially dangerous substance if abused.
I do not believe that cannabis can cause any more harm than alcohol in
fact it has a remedial effect on a lot of known illnesses, such as
cancer, multiple sclerosis, asthma, and many others.
I definitely do not think that it needs to remain illegal in this
country.
Every adult person should bear their own responsibilities before using
any substances and should be aware of the potential dangers involved
when they abuse them.
To me cannabis is in no ways more or potentially dangerous than
alcohol.
Besides I prefer the smell!!!
