Letting Go

Fate brought me to you,
A few slip of words
And it began to happen.
Your words helped comfort me
When all I heard was bad.
You helped me speak up
When I thought my mouth had been glued shut.
You helped me walk
When all I could do was crawl.
And slowly, but surely
I fell in love.
I told you how I felt
And it seemed like you
Just shrugged it off
As a quick shiver.
But,
If you don’t love me—
Why don’t you let me go?
Instead of love and joy,
An empty scar
Is left in its place.
The best I can do
Is to leave and forget you—
The thing I care, cherish
Of most things.
But still,
If you don’t love me—
Why can’t I let go?
