Innocent Eyes

Children - when you play amongst yourselves,
think about what you say.
Calling someone ugly
will stay with them - always.
Big nose, long chin,
what does it really matter.
Thin lips, fat lips,
they're just to help us eat and natter.
If we all looked just the same
I think that would be sad.
Much nicer to have a nose like Mum
and eyes like dear old Dad.
Or the hair could be the colour of Gran's
when she was a slip of a girl.
Long dark lashes might come from
lovely Aunty Pearl.
You see, we are our family,
what has gone before.
Nothing to be ashamed of,
nothing to abhor.
All our bodies are beautiful
and different in every way.
So children,
when you are playing,
think about what you say.
