Whisper

As she slept in the bed beside him, he whispered it in her ear. Every evening after they had cuddled and kissed each other good night he would wait for her breath to slow and her body to relax into a dream. Then he would plant a seed inside her head. A thought that would grow over night, it’s roots spreading through her dreams taking hold of her subconscious. Every night after the whisper he would take a calendar from his beside table and write down the word for that day. He had planted two hundred and seventy three seeds so far, one for every night they had shared a bed. He wanted to mould her into a perfect partner, one he could control. He watched her for awhile, her eyelids twitching as she explored a dream.
Some seeds had come to fruit as he had hoped, while others had yielded unexpected results. After one whisper she returned home the next day with a new haircut, freshly dyed. Another time she suggested a picnic down the park, where they found a secluded spot. Other times though she tried to talk him into a threesome with a male friend or left him tied up as she brandished a whip. He was learning though and every morning he would think about the next seed to plant.
After lying there for over an hour pretending to be asleep, she could hear the soft nasally breath of sleep beside her and opened an eye slowly. He was deep asleep, curled up on his side of the bed. She had discovered his whispering early in their relationship after one awkward night together. Feigning sleep was a skill she had taken seriously, taking up breathing exercises to slow her heart rate and make her inhalations shallow and moved her eyes in the darkness to make her lids twitch.
She had fun twisting his whispers into her own fantasies, never wondering why he couldn’t just tell her. She did think about if it did work, had he used it on previous girlfriends? So now after waiting for him to fall asleep, she would lean over and whisper in his ear. A seed for her own desires, the suggestion would be with him in the morning and the following night she would wait for the same word in her ear and look forward to more fun.
