Why we walk the earth

What knows the heart?
Answer: all things in heaven and on earth.

Sometimes we are lost from it.
And sometimes we hear its music
and are filled with the light of understanding,
and the knowing that there is nothing lost
and beyond its reach.

I am warm this moment. I am not afraid.
I feel that goodness comes in droves,
it comes in quantities, it comes in draughts.
It is mine and it is yours, something for everybody.

Life is good,
though sometimes one tastes
one's scars - when they come back
to us, the hurts of pasts, the memories
so dogged, so clinging.

But life is good. There is no doubt of that.
It is good. For there is no fear or hurt
or pathology - that cannot be touched
and changed and loved.

For that is the reason.
That alone is why we kiss the earth with our bodies.
