What my Dad told me about drugs in 1965
If you touch a single drop
Your head will spin, your eyes will pop
Your guts will churn, your knees will shake
You'll sweat all night and lie awake
You'll bleed inside, your throat will dry
You fall down on the spot and die.
And even if you do survive
You'll end up living in a dive
With rats and lice for company
And just consider Mom and me
This isn't what we raised you for
We will not love you anymore
And what my son told me in 1994
Last night we went across the park
Not quite light and not quite dark
But still quite warm and really still
There was Ben and me and Jim and Phil
We shared our weed and LSD
Ben and Jim and Phil and me
We laid down flat upon the ground
And watched the stars as they went round
We counted them and gave them names
And laughed and played some silly games
And as the stars turned gold and blue
I named a big one after you
