Well
After the long rains,
after the drought,
the water table rises
and the deep recesses of the well begin to fill.
The parched walls moisten.
Spores of dried ferns germinate,
sprout between the rocks.
The stagnant stinking slime
on the floor of the well
is diluted
by living waters
and dispersed.
In time, but slowly,
the well gives back life.
