The Musings of the Mind

There are parts within our grown up selves that have refused to grow up with us and with time; or maybe they are unevolved, archaic insticts of times when civilisation was yet to blossom.
They are like jarring, distracting notes in our otherwise harmonious symphony of life.
Caged within our veneer of restraint and hypocrisy, they are the paradigms of innocence and unbridled emotions.
They fail to understand what logic or reason is, nor do they understand the purpose of maintaining an image.
Like an infant, all they know and care about is themselves; not because they are selfish, but because they are yet to be taught the art of civilised guile, the art of pretending that we care more for others than for ourselves while continuing with our egocentric paths of life.
They wail out loud at the slightest hurts, and sing out in rapturous glee even when their tiniest whims are fulfilled...
But we are meant to be matured; that is, we are to master the craft of pretence, to sugar-coat our venoms of words and secretly pride ourselves on our 'holier-than-thou' attitude.
And hence, we are supposed to throttle such untamed emotions lest they wage a war against our constrained, superficially unctuous selves.
For being unapologetically yourself in a sea of masked, wily faces is detrimental to one's image.
We are to feign, pretend, resort to lies, backstab, anything but be uncomfortably honest, be it with ourselves or with everyone out there.
And if anyone fails to comply with these social precepts, he is to be marked, he is to be looked upon as an incongruous exception and never be forgived for not giving in to the set norms.

that sounds about right, our
