In the 60's we lived in Bovingdon, Sylvia, Kathleen and me.
Our children all went to the village school, not private, couldn't
afford it you see.
It was only a short walk past the shops and the pubs
Dead convenient for any after school clubs.
At the same school were David and Saly
Who would have thought that later they'd marry!
We three had part-time jobs to help make ends meet.
No cars for us in those days - on a bus you found a seat.
Bumping downBox Lane to Hemel, to seek out bargains on Market
Day.
Old ladies, toddlers and mothers, chatting all the way.
It was called the Rover Bus.
At Christmas the driver would dress as Santa Clause - just to amuse
us.
Round the village well we'd go, past Parish and coal and Horwood the
bread.
Returning home laden with shopping, to put our toddlers to bed.
Well, that was in the old days, and we don't live there now. We've
three moved to Milton Kleynes and are together once more - WOW!
We're retired now and the pressure is off - to ferry teenagers here and
there.
We spend our spare time swimming, walking, and sewing and attending
horticultural fairs.
We know that financially, now nothing is owing, especially for school
outings and trips.
We cah spend all our money on ourselves - she quips!
Our walks are such joy on a crisp winter's day.
Along the canal towpath, we walk a long way.
Sometimes the swans are skating on the iced surface.
We walk on and on chatting, with a purpose.
There is a pub in view, The Black Horse Inn we can see.
A place to get warm and a rest for we three.
We sit by the fires and order our food.
There's no doubt about it -RETIREMENT IS GOOD!
