Stone Circle Tai Chi

Tai Chi at Castlerigg Stone Circle

I am drawn by an atavistic pulse to this wet earth,
Surrounded, perhaps, by an inanimate community of stones
Erected, perhaps, by a stoned and animated community!
A communion between near peaks and far stars made solid
with the suggestion that both may be reached,
one through the other,
aiming for the distant, working with the immediate.

I turn and expand, drawing in this environment,
I sink and the release of atrophying intelligence opens me
to the rhythms of other communities, service and worship.
Grateful for such moments I give thanks,
And, along with larger bodies, gently move on.
Now silhouetted stones are indistinct in the departing light
the past overcome by the splendid clarity of this growing night.
