"Hello, Miss Skorevick?"
"Yes"
"You don't know me, but I saw you the other evening on the Northern
Line. Please don't think me cheeky for tracking you down, but I just
had to talk to you."
"Who are you? How did you find me?"
"Don't be frightened. Please don't hang up. I'll only just ring back
again. You were talking to what looked like work mates, and I just
couldn't help but notice you with your lovely blonde hair in that smart
blue suit. Something just set you apart from everyone else. I, I think
you noticed me too. It was last Friday, after work. I regretted not
talking to you then and there, I just couldn't let you walk out of my
life without at least speaking to you."
"What do you look like? For all I know you're the dirty old man that
pinched my mates bottom."
"Well, I'm 28 and I was wearing a black top and holding a Selfridges
bag."
"Hmmm&;#8230; I'm not sure if I remember you, actually. Anyway, how
on earth did you get my phone number?"
"Well the three of you had the same IPN International conference bags
and one of the girls had her IPN ID card clipped to her jacket. They
called you Caroline and you were discussing sales figures, so I called
IPN and asked for Caroline in sales. When they put me through to you,
you answered the phone with your full name, but I put the phone down
because I got nervous. Sorry about that."
"Excuse me, but this is very frightening. Can it really be that easy to
track someone down?"
"Well you are one of only two Caroline Skorevick's in London. The other
is an elderly lady from Stoke Newington."
"So, now that you have tracked me down, what did you want from
me?"
"I wanted to take you on a date."
"Well this is very strange. I'm afraid that I can't accept. This is all
a bit frightening."
"Please Caroline, look at all of the trouble that I've gone to track
you down."
"Which is why I'm frightened."
"Please just see me."
"Look, I don't know who you are. Of course I don't want to meet up with
you. You're a complete stranger."
"You have to."
"Please leave me alone. I'm going to put the phone down, so please do
not call back. Anyway, there is someone at my door."
"No there's not."
"WHAT did you say?"
"I know there's nobody at your door because I'm standing in your
garden."
