Chance

Is all of life chance? Is it just simple luck, that we were born
into whichever family in whatever town, a citizen of whatever country,
at the exact time we were? Did it all happen haphazardly, just a
coincidence, just by chance? Out of millions upon millions of years the
universe has seen, out of the billions and billions of people who live
today, and out of the infantous amount of people who have lived and
died, was it mere chance that we were born into the lives we have, at
the very moment we were? Is it chance we were born human at all; we
could just as easily have been water buffalo, kangaroo's, or
hummingbirds. Is it all chance, or is it something else altogether;
destiny?
Loosely defined, destiny is the path fate; whether you beleive in a
God or many, or no Gods at all; has set forth for us; a preordained,
unchangable destiny. And if that's the case, we are who we are because
of destiny, then why were we made the way we were? And if we can't
change destiny, then what is life? If all of our actions, from
important to minor, are prechosen, then why do we even live?
Or is it something else all together, that we are just too blind to
see? There are so many things we, as humans, cannot grasp; life the
deep reaches of space, or even things on our own planet, mysteries that
have plagued our world for years and years; monsters of the sea and
land, disease. Even things in ourselves are often beyond our reach;
love and hate, lust and passion, pain and suffering. So is it really
that hard to imagine a power at work that we cannot understand, can't
comprehend? Is it so difficult to see that nothing is chance; every
single thing happens for a reason.
Or maybe nothing is in control. Maybe... maybe it's all just
chance.
