Lying in the dark I rose and crept to you
Waded through dawn's blue light to your room
Where infant sowers of morning strew
Seeds of day in the silent, sleepy gloom
In truth I slept, dreams pierced with shards
Of you, your madness, your fire-flecked hair
Brief glimpses of summer before the solemn bards
Of autumn sung their sad and frost-tinged air
Silently I knelt, and holding your hand
Breathed a song of love while you sighed in sleep
The sun rose, the breeze warmed and fanned
Dew-laden grass, lakes brooding and deep
Dreaming is all; you're gone and far away
Yet your eyes still burn and haunt my day.
