Looking across through tinted windows
It seemed all was empty apart from this room
Where we sit and watch how slowly time goes
While muffled phones ring, dispelling the gloom.
On a dull day, when the sky is smothered with cloud
The walls seem to merge, become one with the air
Until we are covered in an ashen shroud
Of negative white, choking the fair
Pale light of the sun, and we feel alone
In this edifice of tarnished silver
While elsewhere trees sigh, winds moan
People walk in the light, by a weed-adorned river
May it shatter, white's stained, faded hue
And we'll sit and work in dreamy blue.
