Enemy Inside

Rustling bags of food placed beside the door
Fumbling fingers in handbag to fish out the key
Key pushed in deeply and turned once more
Pulled down the handle; glad no one can see
Shoes spread all over the hall, holdalls too
Grabbed the bags inside, kicked at a shoe.
Unbuttoned her coat and hung upon stand
Slung on slippers to help her weary feet
Oh! What a relief - it feels so grand!
Messages put away before she takes a seat
Stopping for only a moment, or two
Noticing jobs she has to do.
Used bowls, cups and plates that need washing
A collection of rubbish bags to be taken outside
Red lights all over the house flashing
The house a mess; no longer any pride
So weary of trying, eyes fill with tears
One minute jobs that take hours, days, weeks and years.
