One by one; my world animates,
celebrates welcomed step over
seasonal slush-sodden threshhold.
Warmth, made real, presence blessed.
Two by two; now they are grown,
as my table groans, tottering.
Combined weight of laughter, food,
shared pleasure in each other.
Three by three; he sparkles light.
His being shouts Bang to my cracker,
illuminates how little has changed.
Gift tags, paper strewn, saucer eyed.
We join him, his age, the one
we revel in; remember.
