Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend
Her young naïve eyes stared in awe at the contents of the red velvet box. Running her fingers gently over it she knew she had never felt material as soft as this in her whole 19 years of life. Part of her couldn't help but wonder if she ever would again.
"Go on sweetie, try it on. Her man urged.
Smiling the nervous smile which only arrived at times of shock and surprise she paused before allowing herself exhale the deep breath she had been holding. All she kept thinking was about she needed to calm down and holding her breath had seemed as good a way as any. Until all the blood started rushing to her head and he had to nearly carry her to the bed because she had felt so weak. So it didn't work but she was consoled by the fact that least she wasn't in public, she was mortified at the thought alone.
After giving her a glass of water, making her breathing was okay he showed her the box and what was in it again. If her friends could see her now they would think she was mad. The gifts weren't important to her, she had met the love of her life and she give up all the jewellery in the world if it meant they could be together forever.
What did money mean anyway?
Especially if you weren't with the one you love and who loves you back
He held the cube box up in front of her, the box looking even smaller in the broadness of his hand. But the difference in size just made it look that bit more spectacular.
Struggling to steady her breathing she reached out to pick up the ring. So scared she was of its' frailty she held it between her fingertips.
"It's okay, it won't break. Trevor said soothingly having noticed her fear.
"I know but it just¦¦ it just looks so¦.. Chrissie thought hard searching for the right word, she'd hate for Trevor to think or stupid and then she had it.
"It just looks so precious.
"Well it's a precious gift for my precious girl. So are you going to try it on then my precious?
She couldn't help but smile but her T always had the right words, she guess that was all his college and university,
"So? he said holding up the box again
"Okay, okay. Chrissie said with a grin from ear to ear.

Curled up on her second hand sofa bed she what was possibly the millionth time today she held her left hand out in front of her face. Still full of shock she could barely stop admiring the killer diamond adorning her 3rd finger. She didn't know much apart jewellery but even she knew this was a proper ring, not like the junk her mate Annie had got from her bloke last week. That turned her finger green and the doctor had to cut the ring off because her finger swelled that much!
She still couldn't believe it belonged to her, she had never owned anything so beautiful. If the truth be told she had never owned anything in her life and of course clothes and shoes don't count.
Though she had been expecting T to visit that afternoon she had not been expecting his gift. She finally realised why people liked surprises. Although at first she hadn't wanted to accept it, a jewel that beautiful AND that big must have cost well¦. Well a lot more than she could imagine or ever hope to afford. Yet the more she said 'No', the more he insisted. He said he wanted her to know, to be sure how he really felt about her. She did try to tell him she didn't need a ring for that but again her protests fell on deaf ears.
Then he promised her that when the time was right and when he managed to sort everything else out they would be together at last.
She knew then that he was telling the truth, that he couldn't wait.
She knew he felt exactly the same as her.
