Knight In Shining Armour

Knight in Shining Armour
He was a knight in shining armour
With a heart as pure as gold
He looked the part of hero
Standing straight and tall and bold
It was a part he had long trained for
Before putting armour on
And encased in gleaming metal
He found all his fears had gone
Why would he battle dragons
Why should he even care
The answer was quite simple
He'd found his damsel fair
He fought not for his king
Nor for country or even God
He battled fiercely for one he loved
And most found that quite odd
But his passion took him places
That most did fear to go
And his love for her did guide him
Like others could not know
The problem was his armour
For though it looked so strong and bright
In places life had worn it thin
Though you'd never know by sight
And something that should bounce off it
Would penetrate and he'd recoil
Because though it looked like cold hard steel
Those spots were more like foil
That didn't seem to make much sense
Not to the naked eye
How could one who played the hero
So suffer, scream, and cry?
But he was destined for the damsel
And they were destined for great love
So he patched up his weakest spots
To be the man she'd be proud of
Remounting then his fiery steed
He battled dragons once again
Their fury and their raging fire
Could not cause him too much pain
But when his mount then did throw him
And his shield and lance did fail
He found his damsel there for him
Having donned her own chain mail
For she was not so much helpless
As she was content to see
Just how far this man would go
To make her dragons flee
It wasn't that she needed him
But she wanted love so pure
It wasn't that she was even sick
But she knew he held the cure
And when he'd fought as long and hard
As a man could ever do
She knew the time had come indeed
And she jumped in right on cue
For her hero had his own dragon
And only she could see
The dragon's weaknesses exposed
So she could make it flee
And as they slew each others dragons
Their love just seemed to grow
And with their torments cold and dead
They stood with eyes aglow
They looked into each other
Through armour and into soul
They realized that apart they lacked
But together became whole
The knights then dropped their shields
And shed their armour fast
There was nothing left to fear or fight
And love would ever last
And they traded in their weapons
For tools of love instead
They left then the round table
For a warm and cosy bed
They lived so long and prospered
Both their hearts and love were true
Such is the stuff of legends
And now I bid adieu...
