Waking me, who was already awake,
To life, I feel my heart swell
And the beats quicken
As I understand with flooding clarity
The difference, and why the saying,
The quick and the dead.
Life in its fullness opens its arms
As understanding floods my torso
And I am fizzing, alert, alive.
Hurriedly, the pen expunges
The thoughts in my head
As the rare high hot colour
Flows from my cheeks onto the paper -
Bleeding ink, pens as leeches,
Leading to the euphoric final cure.
Exhausted, I sink back -
Sleep comes, and with it my dreams,
Clear now, clear and clean.
