we all became fish for little while
Buddy says,
that there is an interval in
the pulpy partition of the womb's penitentiary
where upon the wee kidney bean of
growing life
gains a pair of gills.
So basically whilst in natures limbo
we all become fish for a little while?
This got me going.
If at that point in the evolution
the processes ceased and we kept our
amphibious breathing apparatus
and maybe sprouted a few
fleshy rudders,
how different life would be?
Well firstly we wouldn't have
any need for swimming instructors,
or have to act casual when actally horrified
with the life guard's spray on trunks
and why the contents remind us of the rouge robust
christmas baubles upon gran's synthetic evergreen.
Shirt collars and ties
would be none a la mode
they'd only stifle our gills so
I guess office wear would be
obsolete.
And those that worked in offices
would have a wet break every two hours
to sponge down and stop the skin chaffing.
Mothers wouldn't have the tyranny
of bathing sons
on Sunday evenings.
Synchronised swimming
makes the world a better place.
We all became little fish for a while
it was rather marvellous.
