It's a terrible thing that's happening and it needs to be stopped immediately, but it's nothing new. People are starting to sit up and pay attention because it's affecting middle-class white Americans for the first time. Black people in America have always lived in fear of such bullying and brutality that can strike them at any time without warning. It happens all over the world. The operational practices of Trump's ICE today are no different to the British Government's Black & Tans who reinforced the police force in Ireland in the early 1920s, or the South African Police during the dark days of apartheid. And I worry that Starmer's policy of arresting peaceful demonstrators for holding pieces of card in support of the Palestine Action group is going to escalate into something much worse.

There is a terrible irony here.  Trump is voicing support for the Iranian civilians demonstrating against their repressive authorities, saying if the Iranian government turns on the civilians he will intervene.

At the same time he's cracking down on, and even murdering, his own civilians for doing exactly the same thing.

I know Mark, there were lots of other words I could have used -'hypocrisy' is an obvious one.  'State sponsored terrorism' are another three.

There's irony and hypocrisy all over the place.  Trump has steamed into Venezuela and kidnapped a president and his wife.  But at least they're still alive and uninjured and will get a trial, albeit a show one.  The 50-odd  Cuban and Venezuelan soldiers who were executed without trial ,were just doing their job, whatever you might think of their boss,

And (this makes my blood really boil) two civilian Venezuelan women who were murdered in the raid, for going about their own business in their own country. 

Trump's justification for all this ? (I mean the show one, not the real reason of stealing another country's oil).   Maduro was a dictator voted in as a result of elections which were 'neither free nor fair', he's murdering his own citizens for disagreeing with him, and responsible for deaths in the rest of the word.  Er Donald – doesn't that sound just like your BFF Putin, why didn't you start with him ?

As with Gaza and Ukraine, I'm left thinking why doesn't somebody stop them ?  There must be enough good guys in the world to club together to stop all this madness.

As Edmund Burke said 'The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing'

Good poem/song lyrics! Very appropriate to the ICE violence we have seen this week, and since Trump got back into power. Now is the time to at least measure and report what is happening, and to put it into perspective, which you have done. I think this is one corner which has been turned. The reaction to the horror that was seen may well be an important catalyst towards reclaiming the American constitution and American law.
