Progress.

About eighteen months ago, I decided to stop! It was a major part of my life. They became too expensive. I have stuck to my guns. I am proud of that. If something is stopped, sometimes it is good to try something else. Before the eighteen months, it was every week, sometimes twice a week. After the eighteen months, an alternative naturally appeared, and to me in hindsight was much better.

I am talking of course of McDonald’s. I used to have a Big Mac, Fries and Hot Chocolate, then after many years I changed it to, a Quarter Pounder with Fries and Hot Chocolate. But, quite quickly they started to get more expensive. I had to take a stand and made a decision, to stop. I thought it would be hard, but it wasn’t, because to me it was the principle. I am sure I have saved a lot of money.

Before the eighteen months, I used to go to TKMaxx and McDonald’s for my birthday on my own, for me, that was the perfect day, no work, no time limit on my day, then later on in the evening, spending it with my family, with fish and chips, that was The perfect day, going to two places that I love. I used to have a favourite restaurant, but that closed down, it was one of those buffet styles.

Now when I go to TKMaxx which is not very often, but when I do, I go the KFC instead, and for that I have a chicken on the bone and a small fries, £3 you can’t beat that! Sadley, they don’t do hot drinks, as recently I asked for a, “Hot Chocolate.” And was told, “We don’t sell hot drinks,” How daft is that!! At least half of their customers, will drink tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. The youth with have juice or pop, diet, or none diet. So, they are losing money. They used to do hot chocolate, and had the choice of squirty cream, for more money, it was delicious.

So, now I look forward to my little treat. But and it is a big BUT, in the KFC’s now, when I go inside, they refuse to serve us, we have to go to that filthy touch screen thing, and try to order, food for ourselves. At first, when they introduced it, I would refuse to use it, I would ask for assistance. Help would come in the form of a Staff, and my order was quickly done. But as time went on, we were all left to sort it out for ourselves. I remembered recently when I went inside, as I wanted to wash my hands before I ate, I realized that I had to order by myself, I tried this way and then that, I wasn’t getting anywhere fast, it ended up costing me £4 which I knew was not my right order, but there was no Staff to ask, “How do I get the £3 order?” Then to my horror, when I finished ordering there was a large queue behind me! They had all been waiting patiently, so that they could place their orders. I was embarrassed for me, and felt bad for them. It had been a waste of time washing my hands, by the time I had touched all of the touchscreen! My order was ready quickly I went and sat down, and enjoyed my mini meal, with fries hot out of the pan. The last time that I went to KFC, I decided to cheat and order it through the drive-thru instead. It was a pound cheaper and no messing about guessing which package, or deal, or whatever, it was just done very quickly. For those who go often, there is so much choice. But all I ever want is, one chicken on the bone and fries!

Don’t get me wrong, in the eighteen months or so that I have stopped buying McDonald’s I have had McDonald’s, and enjoyed it. It was bought by Meghan for myself and her. It was her treat, for us. I have had it about five times.

It was made clear to us on social media that take away food like KFC and McDonalds’ some of the fries had been eaten and other parts of the order. The companies were trying to combat that, flimsy stickers would then be placed on the bag, that did nothing to deter the man on his bike, or in his car who was going to deliver the food, they would still help themselves, and put the sticker back. It is weird now to think, that before the sticker, the bags were just folded over!!!

Well, when our recent order arrived, at home paid for my Meghan, it was ‘comforting’ to see that the hot food bag was completely sealed and the cold food bag that contained the fizzy pop, that they too were completely sealed.

I see that as progress against the fight against those delivery men, who help themselves to the food that they have not paid for. x
