Everyone and Everything

somewhere, somehow, exhists a place.
a place like this one
with blue skies and green grass
with little boys and little girls
with kittens and puppies
with burglaries and murders
with teen pregnancy and dead-beat dads
.
there is a boy named cyn roderick
cyn roderick is a lot like me
and i am a lot like cyn roderick
if he were a she
or i were a she
we'd be a perfect couple
but alas, "yes on 22" prohibits that
.
cyn roderick had a gift
cyn roderick could tell the future
cyn roderick could look at a person and be able to
tell them how they were going to end up
unless they changed
.
cyn hated his gift
he lived in a poor neighborhood and saw that many of
them would be desolate forever and ever and ever
cyn hated that idea
that something painful could go on forever and ever
and ever
-=-
imagine a long corridor
imagine walking down that corridor
no doors
no windows
just four feet of floor and two walls
it would be the perfect place to learn how to
uni-cycle
.
walk down this corridor
walk down and down it
for tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
this corridor will wear you out
yes indeed
.
cyn roderick has his own corridor to walk down
he's been to the end
and now he walks backwards looking, waiting, hoping
for someone to be coming his way
so he can tell them what lies at the end
.
go ahead
ask him what's at the end
.
"imagine a door," he says, "this door opens and inside
is one of those old television's from the sixties.
"this television just sits there waiting for someone
to turn it on." he says.
"i turned it on, and this is what happened..."

a little white dot appeared in the middle of the
blackness and grew outward into a large encompassing
white light.
then a man appeared
he said, "cyn, i have something to tell you."
then a woman appeared, replacing the man
she said, "it's about that long corridor."
then a baby boy appeared, replacing the woman
it said, "it's really not a corridor, it's life."
then that taco bell dog appeared, replacing the baby
"and this is the end of it, now get some sleep."
cyn asked, "who are you?"
the man said, "i am"
the woman said "the"
the baby said "creator"
the dog said "of the universe"
cyn said, "oh really?"
the dog nodded
.
"it was so boring." said cyn
"not my problem" said the dog
"no indeed, it isn't."
so cyn turned around and started to go backwards
"what are you doing?" asked the dog
"what do you think? i'm going to make it interesting."

that happened a million years ago
now we all do what cyn taught us
we visit each others corridors and draw our symbol
along the walls
we leave our mark on their corridors
so when they travel along, whether we meet them or
not, we leave our part in their journey
.
you ask me how i know this
i was lucky
cyn left his mark in my corridor
