DESTINATION - NOWHERE
The bus pulled up to let another passenger board.
A young man got on and hurriedly sat at the back, away from the
interested passengers who had already boarded, awaiting fot it to take
them to their destinations.
At the front of the bus, a woman pulled out a clipboard from behing the
driver's seat and followed the man to the back where he had chosen to
sit.
She had worked on the buses for at least thirty years now and she
really enjoyed her job.
The bus picked up more passengers and each of their personalities were
different from the last.
By the man, the woman looked down at him, 'Hello man, what is your
name?' she asked.
Reluctant to answer, he just wanted to be left alone. Fares could be
taken any time during the journey and he would not jump the fare like a
lot of other passengers.
The woman persisted as to knowing his name. 'Excuse me, I want to know
what your name is.' She bent her head down to look into his eyes.
Feeling her eyes inside his, he looked at her, and shouted, 'My name is
Andrew Jones.'
The other passengers turned to look at him, disgusted at his
attitude.
Looking down her clipboard, the woman pulled her pen down and read off
each name in turn.
Looking back to the man, she said, 'I will have to monitor you, you are
not on the list.'
As the bus turned the corner, they passed the house where the man lived
and the pub where he had drunk.
Stopping outside the pub, the bus picked up its final passenger.
A young girl got on - no more than twelve - and ran to the back of the
bus and to where the man sat.
The woman asked the girl her name.
'Joanna Myers,' she replied.
She looked down her list and ticked her off. 'Could you sit in the blue
seats please,' she asked the girl.
Everyone was now accounted for.
Joanna did what was asked without questions. She was pleased to be
going to her destination. Her new home where no one would hurt her, and
she will have no more pain or torture to suffer.
As the bus continued on its journey, Joanna and all the other
passengers left the bus at their destination, and all filed in a single
line down the bus as it stopped by a gate.
Andrew saw people come to meet them and knew where this destination
was. He got up to run from the bus as the doors closed.
'I have been monitoring you for the whole journey Andrew and there will
be a different destination for you,' the woman said.
The bus continued on its journey, going down a long, dark street with a
dark tunnel at the end.
Going through the tunnel, Andrew was scared - it was too dark for him
to see anything.
As he saw light at the end of the tunnel the bus slammed on its brakes
and the doors opened themselves.
Andrew was thrown off balance down to the front of the bus.
'Your destination,' the woman said as she kicked him off the bus. 'Time
to get off,' she laughed.
Andrew fell off the bus and realised where this destination was. It was
hell and he would fall for an eternity from the world he had hated and
plaugued for his twenty eight years.
This was destination nowhere.
