In social studies, which is my favorite class, we were learning about Jerusalem, and Mansa Musa, and the Crusades. For you who aren't in seventh grade, nor have any prior knowledge to that history, let me inform you. Mansa Musa took over ghana which was in western africa, and then it was known as Mali. He made this miraculous trip to Mecca, or the peaceland, with 800 slaves, each wearing four pounds of gold. As you can tell, that's an abundance of gold. So, eventually Mansa Musa just gave out gold by increments of like 20 pounds. So everyone in all these cities in west africa, and along the way to Mecca had surpluses of gold. So the value of gold went down and everyone hated Mansa Musa, but he continued to be the strongest emperor of Mali. Now for Jerusalem. Basically, Jerusalem is what lead to the Crusades. The first crusade was the only sucessful out of about four crusades. the first crusade was fought against Turks [muslims] and Crusaders [Christians] Turks originally had power of Jerusalem but Jesus was born in Jerusalem, preached there, and died there, so Christians wanted to be in power. So the turks actually ended up falling to the Christians who captured Jerusalem who destroyed both Jewish and Muslim inhabitats, Christian faith remaining. Modern day Jerusalem is somewhat still at war. However it's divided into three sections so each religeous practice cannot be Disturbed. However, if King Richard the first never made a truce with saladin in the Third Crusade, then Christians wouldn't be allowed to enter.
Now, I am of the Christian Fate, and I am not biased to any of this, but I think this is amazing: if you are of the jewish faith, there is a wall in Jerusalem where people of the Jewish fate write letters adressed to god, and I don't know what you call your god [ abraham? moses? David? ] but then every week they are collected and are sent to god, whereever you believe that is, then whatever. I just think that's amazing.
sorry for the somewhat boring...description.
