HANDICAPPED

Alas, some folks are handicapped
Some, capable and handy
Now I've conceived a notion
And I think that it is dandy
 
We see these special plates on cars
A wheelchair as an emblem
Now I suggest to you a plan
To rectify a problem
 
Let's have a special plate for cars
Whose drivers are erratic
A warning sign to others near
Both vivid and emphatic
 
A goofy face with crossed up eyes
A slack tongue hanging loosely
And underneath a bit of script
To catch the eye profusely
 
The driver here is handicapped
But don't get sentimental
He doesn't drive his car so well
His handicap is mental
 
And why just stop with plates on cars
How 'bout some special patches
For folks with short attention spans
With low IQs that matches
 
The world would be a better place
With all these signs to warn ya
And if they're gonna start this thing
Let's start with California

This cheered me up. And I'm thinking wasit  Kurt Vonnegut who first proposed something similar - making strong people carry weights so as not to disadvantage weedy types? Um? That might not be the same - anyway a witty poem - well done. Dougie

short attention plans — do you mean 'spans'?

You've always got good rhythm! The content is a bit poignant though, because of the difficulty of distinguishing between people who have ordinary problems and those who are just a careless danger to others. I suppose if people are banned from driving because of careless or dangerous driving, they could have to have a time with a card on the car after their total ban has ended, a sort-of probabtionary period. It might encourage care! Rhiannon
