Mable

Mable sat and watched the World go by.
She didn’t care about the things happening thousands of miles way.
She didn’t care about the busy city, the worries and woes.
She didn’t care about the shoppers, or the new President who was inaugurated yesterday.
Mable sat at the window and watched and waited.
Nothing could turn her attention from the task at hand.
Nothing was more important than to be patient.
Nothing should distract her from this concentration.
Mable sat and breathed a long sigh.
Her World was not so big that it could interrupt her imagination.
Her life wasn’t dictated to by politics or the affairs of State.
Her outlook was clear and uncomplicated to anyone who saw her.
Mable sat and waited for a most important moment.
There were things that would happen for her.
There were people she did care for and them for her.
There were moments which could never be replaced.
Mable sat and stared with the look of expectancy.
Could it be the sound she had been waiting for all this time?
Could it be the ones who loved her as she loved them?
Could it be the moment she’d been dreaming of, for what seemed an eternity?
Mable sat and her head dropped with disappointment.
It was a false alarm, her hopes had been dashed.
It was a moment that didn’t arrive in a fanfare of welcome.
It was a feeling that brought her beating heart into conscious rhythm.
Mable sat and dreamed with glistening eyes.
The day looked cold outside, but she was warm.
The day was long and seemed to go on forever.
The day was a day like any other day to her; she couldn’t tell the difference.
Mable sat and excitement ran though her.
They were here, coming through the door.
They greeted her with open arms and joy in their hearts.
They were home and safe and nothing else mattered.
Mable sat,
Her chin on her family’s knee,
Her little tail wagging.
Her day was complete.
