The Pan

The Pan:
Objects have a very curious thing about remembering. they remember who last touched them--who last used them--who lasted loved them. This is about a pan. Silly as it may sound.
I was curiously trying to clean a pan I used today. Being the 'poor' kid I was now as I lived alone and had to budget my shit, I settled for one of those side stalls that sold random things from necklaces to pot and pans run by chings. It was far cheaper than the stuff at the malls and I'd rather not waste good money on living supplies when I could use it for more…interesting things. Like a new katana.
I had cooked a simple meal of fried egg that morning when a smell disturbed me. I didn't know where it came from at first, so I walked around the apartment to investigate. Oddly enough the smell diminished as I left the kitchen. I thought it was odd, so I went back and the smell got stronger. Curse my sensitive nose.
I sniffed around and found my eggs smelled horrible.
I frowned and threw them away. No breakfast for me. I was late already as it was. Glancing at the pan I just used, I soaked it in water and scrubbed quickly--with the tremendous strength I had, it took very little time to was away the remnants of the egg. But there was something brown…something dirty that still remained on it. I growled and sniffed at it. That was the smell. That's why my eggs smelled bad.
After thinking about it for a while, and a few more sniffs just to confirm my suspicions; I took the pan with me. the wind from the speed I hopped through would dry it. My mission today was urgent, a little girl had gone missing the night before.
That night we arrested a man--the one who had sold me the cooking supplies. And I watched as 'Murasaki-sensei', Kurogane Yuudi killed him. He deserved it. It was part of the mission.
We now sat at the edge of the field.
"How'd you know he was the one?" Shindi asked.
"Objects have a great memory." I replied, getting up. "The pan told me the last thing he had cooked."
It had reeked of human blood. The little girl we were sent to find? I'd rather we didn't. I ordered the mission over. Looks like I'd have to save up for that katana some other time too.
