Boyzie Buzzard

Boyzie Buzzard swooped from on high
He'd spent all day patrolling the sky
Now his wings were tired and he wanted to eat
Then he spied his dinner - yummy, dead meat!
There below and a bit to the right
A pale horse lay, in the fading light
Boyzie circled, lower and nearer
His vision of food was becoming much clearer!
The horse lay still, with hooves on chest
No signs of life - no heaving breast
So Boyzie poked, harder and harder
'Til the horse yelled "Oi! I'm not for your larder!
How dare you prod me with that wing -
I've never heard of such a thing!
Just go away - now! Please buzz off
Find someone else that you can scoff!"
Boyzie reeled and astounded, fled
For this snoozing horse just wasn't dead
That meant no corpse for Boyzie's meal
This situation was unreal!
"Wait. Sorry, Old Boy - perhaps I was hasty
I guess you're looking for something tasty?
If you will come to my home now
My wife will rustle up some chow
I suppose you thought I was a horse-
An easy mistake to make, of course
I'm actually a zebra - it's the stripes I lack
Here's my house, we'll go round the back."
Zebra's wife was busy, painting the fence
The paint was black and very dense
"Come in, you two!" she said with a smile
I'll serve dinner up in a very short while."
As the three of them sat around the table
(Eating up fast as they were able)
Boyzie had a brilliant idea
He said to the Zebras "Now listen here
I've thought of a way to stripe your skin
Please lend me that paint and put the brush in
Now, Mr Zebra, to the fence, if you could
And I'll paint black lines, through the gaps in the wood."
When Boyzie had finished, Mr Zebra looked swell
He was white AND black - on his tail as well!
He was thrilled and excited and gave Boyzie a kiss
"We'll always be friends, after all this!"
They had a dessert of roast slug and ice cream
But all Boyzie could do was sit there and beam
His tummy was full and he'd made a new friend-
I'm so glad everything worked out well in the end.
