Turning the Paige

Farewell, my little one.
Go, God's speed.
For now, He will fill your every need
You're safe in my thoughts and there you'll stay
For nothing could ever take you away.
Will you grow older, at God's right hand?
Will you be happy in that unknown land?
Who'll dry the tears, when you scrape your knee?
Whilst I must stay here, it cannot be me...
We will be apart, but you're close in my heart
I'm cheated of memories - your life did not start
But part of my being forever is you
I look to our meeting, when my life is through.
So go now, go play and be a good child
Remember your manners and don't be too wild.
Not too much ice-cream and brush you teeth well
Try hard with your sums and the words that you spell
Keep your room tidy and please make your bed
'Til I can look after you, in God's good stead.
