Empty House
Hollow memories fill this empty house,
lifeless rooms have died with time,
once the laughter of children lived here,
once that laughter was mine.
Creaking floorboards lay dirty and bare,
the sunbeams smile through splintered panes,
clean square on the wall,
a picture hung there,
the picture had no name.
Gaping fireplace,
a smoked stained room,
once the heart of this house, so grand,
it beats no more,
the home is dead,
it's death was never planned.
My old home now is but an empty house,
I feel I've lost a lifelong friend,
you saw me grow from my beginning,
I see you at you're end.
