Loaded Guns
I'd never realised the power of words
The way that they cut or they cheer
They can be twisted like knives
In the backs of mens lives
Or deliver a feeling sincere
They can run, they can rhyme
They can be sung out of time
They can be dark or as bright as the sun
They can be loaded with fear
They can force out a tear
They can carry more dread than the gun
(The gun that you hold to my head)
I'd never realised the restriction of thought
The way that it stores up inside
All those words that congeal
When they should say what you feel
Before the reason you thought them had died
They can fade, they can die
Make you laugh, make you cry
Help to forget, or remember a time
They can make you lose sleep
They can take you so deep
Help you see, or be permanently blind
(Like the eyes that can see through my head)
I'd never realised the emotion of touch
The way it transmits and conveys
Some decision you made
To release or to save
To hold close or to push far away
It can hurt, it can heal
Or reflect all you feel
It can punish or patronise
It can slap or caress
It can pull or compress
It can strangle a life, it can lie
(Like the lie you put into my head)
I never knew who you were
(Until you pulled the trigger)
