This small tiled space
Bounded on two sides
With blank Formica
Affords complete security
In a way nowhere else can
My body relaxes
My mind is at rest
Awareness is elsewhere
The unseen is automatic
For I know I’m safe
Forget Mindfulness
Forget sitting cross-legged
Trying to escape unquiet thoughts
Gentle presence of machinery
As if aboard some great ship
Rooms of silent books beyond
Colours on my calf within
My body relaxes
My mind is at rest
And I know I’m safe

Having walked back and forth

Having walked back and forth past the coronavirus pods today, (accompanying my partner to surgery), I feel the sanctuary of this poem.
