I love
this vague surviving¦
the rising of the sun
and its sunset;
the breaking of the wave on the rocks
and the happiness of the wind.
I love
this life;
each moment.
I love the flight of a sea-gull
and its recall.
I love the smile
of a child just born,
the protective glance
of a father and a mother.
I love the present as the past.
I love the courage
of a man who can suffer
without reacting;
the dignity
of a man who can't lie.
I love the cross on the altar.
I love giving
before having.
I love respect
the prince of everything.
And I love understanding,
before speaking;
and I love speaking
if I must more
than being silent.
I love the sea.
