A Lesson On Living

You want to teach me
A lesson on living?
I think not, you see,
I've gone this long without giving.

You taught me, not so long ago
What a fool I had been.
To think that I could just go
And live without being seen.

You see, my heart and trust had been broken
By one I had thought of as a friend.
But that friendship was just a token
That she simply put to an end.

Then you came along
And gently mended my heart.
Showing me there is no reason to be alone.
When I can have honest friends from the start.

So I thank-you for the lesson on living
The one I didn't want to learn.
On how to find friends that are giving
At each and every new turn.
