Once there was this boy named Joe. Joe loved to fish. There would be
times when Joe would stay out hours and hours fishing. His mother, Sue,
told him, "Joe, be careful out on the lake today." Joe replied, "I will
Mom. Don't worry; I'll bring home lots of fish for supper tonight." Sue
smiled at her son as he ran down the street with his fishing pole in
his hand.
Joe was excited about all of the fish he was going to catch. When he
got to the lake, he set his pole down and jumped in the water for a
quick swim. Joe thought if he could imagine himself as a fish in the
water, he would swim with the salmon as they swam upstream. He
pretended to be a fish that saw a hook with bait. Joe told himself,
"I'm not that silly to put a hook in my mouth and be pulled out of the
water. Nobody will ever catch me." As soon as those words came out of
his mouth, he felt a cloth like substance under his feet. He decided to
swim to the bottom so he could have a look. When Joe reached the bottom
of the lake, he saw an old net that was laid flat on the floor of the
lake. Under the net, he saw a shiny piece of gold. Joe reached down to
pick it up when all of the sudden, the net pulled up and caught him
inside of it. Struggling to get out, Joe tried to swim to the top of
the water. The more he tried to escape, the more tangled in the net he
became. Finally the net surfaced to the top of the water and he could
breathe. Joe screamed at the top of his lungs. "Help me somebody!" Then
all of the sudden Joe was inside his room. He looked up and saw his
favorite fishing pole leaning against his dresser. He finally realized
that he was lying in his bed, dripping with sweat. Joe let out a sigh
of relief. "I was only dreaming." He said to himself. Or was he?
