The Bat

Mr and Mrs Hompolenter
Took their children to the shopping centre.
They bought a dog, they bought a cat.
They even bought a baby bat.
They got some bread.
They got some eggs.
They even got some clothing pegs.
The youngest child called Emma-Lee
Said they must get some broccoli.
And the oldest girl named Alana
Said they must get fresh banana.

When in the car to leave the centre
They realised they had left young Lester!
When they found him lost in Coles*
They heard the click! The shop was closed!
Mrs Hompolenter began to sob
But the cleverest child whose name was Bob
Announced that he had a plan.
But no one listened, not even Dan.

Then something roared and everyone turned.
They screamed so much
Their lungs nearly burned.
For there was a lion that was very thin
And he was making such a din.
He looked hungry and was dying of thirst
And the Hompolenters knew they would come off worst.
I hope you will not feel a pain
When I tell you the Hompolenters were never seen again.
But some blood has been sighted in Coles*
And a baby bat with a wing full of holes.
