'I love you' - these words, like a slippery eel
Slide off your tongue, but what do you feel?
You say them as if they were everyday words,
A flattering sentence I want to be heard.
They are fuelled by their meaning; their logic combusts,
But the hot fire of passion is burned down to dust.
I believe what I hear, because it sounds right,
But are these words driven by all of your might?
Or are they just habit? Polite etiquette?
The time when you felt them you start to forget?
When you say them aloud, your throat makes a noise,
But your eyes are silent, utterly void.
The words 'I love you': without intent,
Commonly spoken, uncommonly meant.
