E) Silence and me

A damp afternoon like so many before,
Running shoes on, I slam shut the door.
I run past the cold, my heart starts to pound,
My breath hangs in clouds like the mist all around.
Aimlessly running, just keeping the beat,
The regular rhythm rapped out by my feet
Then turning a corner, I suddenly
Stop.
Mingled with mist, like a shapeless white ghost,
Lit by the glow of a fuzzy lamppost,
The silence envelops, I listen in awe
On this damp afternoon like never before.
The world is a statue, except for the trees
Whispering gently in tune with the breeze.
A solitary bird offers a song.
I stand there immobile, I don't know how long.
The feeling runs through me; I don't know what
A mixture of everything, cold, warm and hot.
But also it's nothing, as if I'm empty,
No noises, no world, just silence and me.
