I see your eyes are smiling
Summer's promise
Has raised a glass to your lips.
So drink the sap of evening
And lay out a prayer
That this early warmth
Be no mere March deception.
Together we'll light the touch paper
To our dreams of heat.
Like the legend of '83
When day after day
The poplars offered up their silver.
And end to end the sky trembled
Verdigree peeled back to pearl.
But I've no fear the year
Will unwrap its gifts too soon.
The flicker of a southern wind.
Thunder rolling in the afterglow.
And stretched out from your doors
The rush of the midnight rain.
