What If

When you lose something that you love,
(A parent or a pet),
You wonder if it was your fault,
And thus we have regret.
Then they set in, those heavy words;
("What If" is what I mean),
And often start to make you hurt
From forces never seen.
You wonder "What If" I had said
Something another way,
Would what I love that now is lost
Be back again to stay?
But if you let your thoughts be blurred
By fights and tears that sting,
You'll miss the things that matter most,
Like kisses in the spring.
So when you start to wonder if
You'll see the love you had,
Just think of all the happy times
The good and not the bad.
