Crane's Law

Just as I was planning to reverse the financial flow and finally sell some stuff, an email notified that selling on eBay is now free. They still charge to list items, but there are 300 free listings per month. So far, so good.
The small print. Something called ‘eBay Balance’; “A new way to use your funds when you sell”. In my opinion, sounds more like a way for them to hold onto funds, earning interest, before passing the money to the sellers. Although withdrawal of full amounts can be made on demand, “payment holds may apply”. eBay suggest sellers use this ‘eBay balance’ to buy more crap they don’t need (my opinion), on eBay, and/or pay eBay to promote items for sale.
Have to hand it to them for getting folk coming and going.
The tiny print. Sellers must add a bank account to receive funds. No doubt making things easier for the tax man, as the law recently changed on these small-sell earnings too. While, this seems fair enough, in effect, it’s double-taxing. IMHO.
Whatever, will probably give eBay a try. It’s the place to sell Emma Bridgewater (the crockery, not the person) to collectors, and doubt it will make anywhere near a taxable amount anyway.
A better offer had arrived by snail mail; free entry to Historic Scotland properties on the first Sunday of each month from October until March.
Visited Duff House last weekend. An Adam building, unfinished due to a quarrel about payment.
Money.
A life lesson in any era, at any level of society.
Most beautiful thing to see in Duff House in autumn; go upstairs and look out through the Georgian windows at the gigantic golden amber chestnut trees.
Couldn’t help but notice, those Georgian windows could do with a lick of paint.
