This case was particulary bad, the victim had been young and the
damage was extensive. It was so senseless, so utterly futile... but
there was no point getting worked up about it now, the worst had
happened, and like usual he'd got there far too late.
Taking a deep breath he got to work recording the details of the body:
major scarring to the skin, obviously the events leading up to this
tradgey had been going on for some time. The skin was mostly grey, all
life having long been drained away. In places hard crusts had formed
where the damage was most extensive. The body looked like it had been
through hard times, he could see the signs of wear and tear. The
resources and energy of the victim gradually worn away as the parasitic
infection advanced. They had certainly been thorough, almost the entire
surface had been covered in the same grey crust they depositited as
they worked, gradually covering and suffocating the life supporting
skin.
He saw how the infection had destroyed the lungs, ensuring that the
hosts last chance of at least slowing down the destruction was gone.
There was no way now it could have removed the poisonous gases the
parasites created as a by product of their living processes. He could
almost feel the suffering and pain as the victim must have slowly
suffocated, unable to cool down; a whole raft of other illnesses taking
hold as the fever progressed.
Could they not see what suffering they caused? He supposed they didnt
care, they only stayed long enough to drain what resources they needed.
So they could build their technology and move on to infect and plunder
another victim, before they too were destroyed by the inevitible final
death throes of their host.
He wished there was something he could do, but as cheif forensics
officer for the Planet Protection Board his job was only to observe the
aftermath, left by these parsitic humans.
As he finished his examination and turned his ship away to travel to
another case, he carefully recorded the name of this planet: The
Earth.
